Rechargeable Electric Knife - Why Should You Have One?

I can think of one very good reason straight away why you should have a rechargeable electric knife..

Picture the scene.. its Christmas Day or perhaps Thanksgiving. You have you whole family gathered at your house and the mouthwatering aroma of roasting turkey is drifting from your kitchen.

At long last the meal is ready, your guests are seated around your exquisitely laid table and eager anticipation fills the air. You proudly bring to the table a beautiful plump golden brown turkey to a chorus of approving noises It looks delicious and all of your hard work has been worth it.

You pick up your carving knife and fork and set to work. Fifteen frustrating minutes later you are still hacking away desperately trying to get all of those people served before the entire meal goes cold. Ragged chunks, rather than perfect thin slices, are all you can manage. Finally you get everyone served and its time to help yourself to some. That's usually the moment when the kids have finished theirs and demand a second helping. Its incredible just how stressful carving a turkey can be when all eyes are on you!

With a decent rechargeable electric knife this job can be done far more quickly and easily. It is also far easier to achive those nice thin slices and do your turkey, ham or whatever it might be, justice. Plus it means less stress for you.

Why Choose A Rechargeable Electric Knife?

Its just so much easier, really. For extremely clumsy people like me it stops me from throttling myself with the cord or even sawing off the odd digit whilst I am concentrating on the carving. However there are other advantages to having a rechargeable electric knife too -

  • there is no cord to get in the way making it easier to cut at different angles
  • you can take it to the table if you wish to carve the meat there
  • you can use it outside - ideal for summer barbecues etc
  • take it with you on a picnic to cut pies and so on

What Else Is A Rechargeable Electric Knife Useful For?

While an electric knife is great for carving meat thats certainly not all it can do by any means.

Slicing Bread

This is so much easier with an electric knife. If you make your own bread at home then you know how tricky fresh bread can be to slice properly. An electric kitchen knife makes it a lot easier to achieve even slicing and to get thick slices for toast and thin for sandwiches.

Cutting Fruit And Veg

Some people buy a rechargeable electric knife for carving large joints of meat but then start to find out that it can make really short work of cutting up vegetables and fruit so they end up using their knife several times a day.

Cutting Frozen Food

Some models of rechargeable electric knife will actually cut right through frozen food. This can be a really good feature because as anyone who has tried it knows, it is almost impossible to do with a standard knife, at least not safely. so if you take something out of the freezer at the last minute an elecric knife can come in very useful.

Review From America's Test Kitchen

Sonic Blade Cordless Knife

This seems to be the last word in  rechargeable electric knife design.

According to the manufacturer it will cut any food, hard or soft, without crushing or mangling it in any way. Delicate foods can be cut with precision enabling you to present foods beautifully. A demonstration video does indeed look very impressive.

However reviews from users are not universally positive. Whilst some reviewers say that it is fantastic and does everything they want it to others say it would not cut butter!

Carving Technique

There is of course a right way and a wrong way to carve any large piece of meat whether it be a turkey or a side of beef. This holds true whether you are using a rechargeable electric carving knife or an ordinary one.

Carving your meat correctly will not only make it look better it will make it more tender and easy to chew. So if you want to make the most of meat learn how to carve.

I have asked Amazon if I could buy a sonic blade knife.

I was told that it is only available on their American web site, and that I can't buy it from London. I don't know what to do know. Please help me. Thanks

Are there any rechargeable electric knives that can be used (by an elderly person) to cut meat (steaks, chops) at a dinner table?

These are large knives designed for carving etc - I don't know of any that could be used by the individual for eating. To be honest I think it would probably be quite dangerous even if the knife was small.I would suggest cutting the food up before serving.
