Nursing Bra - Essential For Breastfeeding Mothers

If you want to give your baby the best possible start in life choosing to breastfeed is the best decision you can make.

there is no doubting that the best food for a new baby is its mothers milk as nature sees to it that it is the perfect food. as well as being nutritionally superior breast milk is free and always available.

So if you have decided to breastfeed your baby you are going to need to get a nursing bra. This really is essential and you should never attempt to breastfeed whilst wearing an ordinary bra. A proper nursing bra allows you to give your baby easy access to your breast and has special openings to allow this. With a standard bra you would be simply trying to pull the cup aside and in doing so would cause a restriction which could very rapidly lead to a blocked milk duct. As any breastfeeding mothers who have suffered from a blocked milk duct will tell you, this is an experience which is to be avoided at all costs. The symptoms of a block milk duct can be very unpleasant indeed. You develop a lump in your breast which becomes hot, painful and  inflamed. There can be other flu like symptoms including sweating and fever. Coping with a newborn and trying to continue breastfeeding under these conditions is very difficult indeed.

Not so many years ago nursing bras were a bit, well, utilitarian shall we say. In other words they were about as stylish and feminine as a pair of hobnail boots. You felt as if you were wearing industrial strength lingerie.

The good news for mothers who wish to retain some femininity after childbirth is that nursing bra design has come ona bit,well quite a lot actually.

You can now get a nursing bra which looks pretty, feels soft and comfy and most importantly supports your breasts properly. After all we can feel frumpy enough straight after we have given birth and we don't want our underwear making it worse!

Having said that of course comfort and a good fit are the most important things and you may find a nursing bra which looks like it was made in 1930 but feels wonderful. If so I would personally buy it for everyday wear and get a pretty one for when I wanted a change.

The Nursing Tank

As well as more attractive bras you can now get the nursing tank. This is a top styled like a vest or tank top but designed to include the support which breastfeeding mothers need. These are proving to be very popular as they allow you to breastfeed discreetly much more easily and you are able to keep your tummy covered up during a feed. many new mothers are very self conscious about their post pregnancy belly and so this is a great plus point.

Also the nursing tank is more like an item of clothing and some look nice enough to be worn without anything over the top. If you wear a nursing tank then you don't need special nursing shirts as you can use any ordinary shirt over it.
